Poseidon Phuket Dive Spots

Raja Jay Island


This Island with its high Mount and beautiful beaches is situated south of Phuket. Colourful corals and all kinds of tropic fishes amaze the dive enthusiast. There are also four wracks in depths between 20 and 30m that have built home for plenty fishes. Because of its very protected bays Raja Jay is ideal for beginners and offers safe drift dives along the edges of the island. At the beach wait small local restaurants and bars to serve between the dives. About seven dive spots, average depth 20 – 25 m, visibility around 25 m, travel time by boat one hour.


Raja Noi Island


The small sister of Raja Jay is the most southern island around Phuket. Because of its position far away from the mainland and the deep water surrounding it, visibility is normally very good there. The currents bring nutrient rich water and create a underwater landscape with abundant hard and soft coral. Large animals like turtles, groupers, tuna fishes, barracudas, sharks and manta rays are regularly seen there. Sheltered bays and save drift dives along the islands sloops, some spots with hard currents and deep dive sites for very advanced divers, ideal for wide angel photography. The island is uninhabited and covered with jungle.
Eight dive spots, depth 20 – 40 m, visibility 25 - 40 m, travel time by boat two hours.


Dork Mai Island


This island with its 60 m high limestone cliffs offers a spectacular view. Under water the wall continues at the eastern side of Dork Mai to a depth of 25 m. It is covered with large oysters, hard coral and large gorgonians. Two easy to dive caves
are in this wall. In one of them the diver can surface to a large air bubble about 8 m under the surface. The western part of Dork Mai consists of over hanging walls at the two edges and a sloop in the middle. Plenty of smaller and larger fishes dwell around the island. Wall dives, cave dives and drift dives can be practised at this island. Ideal for macro photography, rare critters and under water landscapes.
Three dive spots, depth 15 – 30 m, visibility 15 – 25 m, time to travel by boat one hour.


Shark Point – Anemone Reef
 

Four different reefs, about two hours from Phuket. All of them a highlight. This reefs offer an incredible density of sea life. Hard corals, colourful soft corals, huge fan corals and plentiful small critters of all kinds. Many pelagic fishes like mackerels, tunas and barracudas are visiting this reefs. In the sand rest patient leopard sharks and large guitar sharks mate there during March. The underwater photographer is in the doubt of macro or wide angel lens! One of the most famous dive sites at whole Asia.
Four dive spots, visibility ranges from 12 to 25 m, maximum depth 23 m, time to travel by boat is two hours.


King Cruiser
 

A former car ferry that was transformed to a tour boat, serving between Phuket and PeePee islands. It sunk 1997 between the two destinations. The 85 m long vessel rests with its two keels at a depth of 30 m. The upper deck is at a depth of 12m. The wreck has very nice structures and is home of large schools of barracudas, mackerels, snappers and many more fishes. Lion fishes there grow up to the size of a small grouper!
Depth is between 30 and 12 m, visibility 12 – 25 m, travel time by boat two hours.
